The Matchup: However heavyweights are identified more for big-time punching supremacy and splendid knockouts, Mir and Nelson fall into the experienced category. Nelson has remained on the shelf since his unfair decision loss to Junior dos Santos at UFC 117, where he displayed a chin worthy of Mount Rushmore. Mir is 3-2 since he acquiesced Brock Lesnar in February 2008, as he has shown hints of an better standup game inserted between fierce knockout losses to Lesnar and Shane Carwin.
In a heavyweight match, the better warrior has the clear edge, principally when he is the tougher hitter with more established cardio. That is Nelson, in circumstance you have not read between the lines. Do not be misled by the belly -- “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 leader can dunk a basketball, and he is brilliant on the mat. Mir’s knockout wins over faded stars like Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira were excellent showings but must be placed in outlook.
This is Nelson’s fight to lose. He must be able to retain it at least even on the feet and will be sturdier in the clinch. Mir’s proposal game and guard could pose difficulties early, as he is great at abusing small openings. That said, Nelson will perhaps look to wear depressed Mir on the feet and in the clinch. The Pick: Look for Nelson to pick his spots, predominantly in associations, where Mir has shown a propensity to rest. Nelson will not let him, and he will pace on the gas pedal, exhausting down Mir for a third-round strike.
